Accra, Aug. 30, GNA - Three-time African Para Cyclist Champion Alem Mumuni will represent Ghana at the 2016 Paralympics Games to be held in Rio, Brazil from September 7-18, 2016.

Mumuni, who will be making his second historic appearance at the Paralympic Games, after his first showing at the London 2012 games, will be seeking to improve on his previous performance by making a significant impact this year.

The cyclist, who is currently training in the United States of America (USA), will count on his previous experience in the competition and remains one of the nation's hopefuls for medals at the Games.

Alem will be flying the flag of Ghana in the C2 Individual Pursuit and the C2 road time trials.

With few days to the start of the competition, Alem is expected to depart the US for Brazil on September 3.

He won two silver medals for Ghana at the European C1 Para-Cycling Cup in Greece and is confident of winning a medal at the Paralympics Games this year.

The versatile para-athlete, who also plays Basketball, Volleyball and Football, was a former member of the Ghana National Amputee Soccer Team that qualified for the World Cup in 2014.

For him, the London 2012 Paralympic Games has given him enough experience to build on in the 2016 Games.

Judging from his level of commitment and dedication to the sport, there is no doubt that, Alem is capable of making history at the Games, though he admits it will not come on a silver platter.

'The competition will be tough because every athlete has indeed prepared for it but am confident I will triumph'. He stated. GNA
