All the games were officiated by the CentWest trained referees. The Match Commissioner and the Technical Director of CentWest, Clement Dennis, were pleased with the performance of the teams and the authority exercised by the referees during the games.

According to Ako Wilson, President of GRUPA, the event was to showcase Rugby as an alternative sport to the youth and the general public. It was also to help players keep fit while waiting to kick start the 15s league in November.

The venue chosen by the organisers was ideal due to the fact that it was close to the famous Akroma Plaza Hotel and spectators were thrilled with all the action.

The President of CentWest, James Nunoo, was delighted about the turn of events. He also commended the referees for demonstrating command over the game and ensuring discipline.

According to the President of the Ghana Rugby Football Union (GRFU), Mr Herbert Mensah, the GRUPA Sevens Keep Fit Tour serves more than one purpose, and an important objective is to introduce Rugby as sport to areas beyond Accra and Cape Coast where the major teams are currently situated.

“Rugby is the second biggest team sport in the world after football, and the sport has experienced phenomenal growth since its reintroduction to the Olympics Games in the Sevens format of the game,” Mensah said.

The next “GRUPA Sevens Keep Fit Tour” event will take place in Kumasi at the KNUST grounds on August 27 2016.
