UG, TAFISA Hold Sports Course

A National Certified Leadership Course (CLC) for sports administrators, coaches and organizers has been held at the University of Ghana (UG) Legon.

The course was arranged by the University of Ghana Sports Directorate and the Association for International Sports for All (TAFISA) and sought to equip participants with methods that focus on bringing joy, health, social interaction and development to communities around the globe through the promotion of sports.

TAFISA Commissioner Peter Kapustin, one of the facilitators in a post-course interview on Friday said that “We sought for professionalism in management and coaching of different target groups; not just for high elites sports but children, persons with disability, women with different cultural backgrounds; all those are in the Sports for All Movement.”

He expressed the hope that politicians and the various sports organizations will understand the benefits of Sports for All- a social integration, health, joy, education, economic and ecology.

The TAFISA commissioner, who described the 25-member participants as very motivated, revealed that Sports for All is more than just an amusement or fun.

Two panel discussions on the topics 'Sports as a means and not only to an end' and 'Sports  Marketing and Public Relations' were handled with great expertise by facilitators like Dr Emmanuel Owusu Ansah, Magnus Rex Danquah, Mrs Ethel Sackey, (Group Director, Right to Play), Dr  Mahmoud Abdul Mahmoud, Yaw Sakyi  in the three-day course.

University of Ghana Director of Sports Dr Bella Bello Bitugu speaking on 'Sports and Media Consumption and Community Development; gave evolution of consumption, sports and the media and touched on how sport have become a huge industry saying, “let's instrumentalise sports.”

He urged participants to spread the good news of sports in their communities and offices and take advantage of the evolving nature of the sports industry so that they can benefit not only in competitions but as a tool for greater benefit.

A group work on Program Development and Management lowered the curtain on the programme after which certificates were presented to participants.

It attracted   sports administrators, coaches and organizers notably UG, University of Professional Studies, University of Education, Right To Play and Street Children Empowerment Foundation (SCEF).

TAFISA is a leading international sport for all organization which focuses on bringing joy, health, social interaction, integration and development to communities and citizens around the globe.
