JUL 24, 2016 LISTEN

Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak played out an enthralling 1-1 draw at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi on Sunday.

The game earlier in the season in Accra, had ended 1-0 in favour of the Reds, and so fans of both clubs were geared up for the encounter in Kumasi.

Kotoko took the lead in a first half they largely dominated, when Kwame Boateng turned home a rebound in the 17th minute, after Hearts goalkeeper Soulama, had saved Emmanuel Gyamfi’s initial effort.

The Phobians were disappointing in the half, and struggled to contain the Porcupine Warriors who threatened to run riot.

Hearts came out after the break determined to get back into the game, and created a couple of decent chances early.

They eventually leveled when Patrick Razak controlled a beatiful pass from Isaac Mensah delightfully in the box, and finished.

Hearts had completely turned the  game around that time, and looked certain to get a second.

Essuman fired just over after Samudeen had found the wall with a free-kick, and  Razak had his shot blocked moments later.

Paul Acquah found the side-netting after decent play with Musah Ibrahim.

A period of sustained pressure couldn’t get the goal Hearts sought, and Kotoko hung on for the point.

The result keeps Hearts top of the league, five points clear ahead of Kotoko in fifth.
