Former Ghana midfielder Sarfo Gyamfi his stoked the fired over the Black Stars captaincy by urging Asamoah Gyan to surrender the captaincy role to Andre Ayew to save his career.

The former Asante Kotoko player gave the advice to the China-based captain without elaborating why it relinquishing the band would save his career.

The tough talking former midfielder nicknamed 'The Black President' joined the debate following recent reports that the Swansea City star Ayew was being considered as the substantive captain with the 2018 World Cup qualifiers looming.

Ayew has been deputizing for Gyan as the Black Stars captain following the latter's recent injuries which looks to have sparked the rumours.

But the son of Ghana legend Abedi Pele has slammed the report asking the public to disregard the report and pledged his support for Gyan's leadership.

Gyan also said on Monday that such reports are calculated to damage his good relationship with Ayew insisting he is still the leader of the side.

However, Gyamfi who was part of the Ghana's squad at the 1992 Africa Cup of Nations, says Gyan must allow Ayew to takeover the band as soon as possible to save his career.

''It will be better for Asamoah Gyan to give the Black Stars captain's armband to Andre 'Dede' Ayew to save his career,'' the former Black Stars player told Kumasi-based Silver FM.

"The captain belongs to Andre Ayew.''
