Nii Lantey Vanderpuye: Sports Ministry to support other sports aside football

Hon. Nii Lantey Vanderpuye, Minister of Youth and Sports has told lesser-financed sporting federations in the country to tone down their threats to drag the Sports Ministry to the human rights court because mistakes were made before he came into office.

There are media reports that the sporting federations claim the Ministry has shown much attention to football to the detriment of their sport, and will drag the Ministry to court for what they described as 'unfair treatment'.

But Nii Lantey has called on them to refrain from their threats and throw their weight behind him and he will share the national cake equally.

'I have tried to talk to the presidents of the federations involved, to let them understand, to have trust in me that my issuance is with them, that I will try as hard as possible to try and support each and every other sport and discipline. I pledge to make sure that happens,' the MP for Odododiodio Constituency told Joy FM.

He explained that: "The budget was in before I came into the ministry.'

Mr. Nii Lantey reckons that mistakes made by his predecessors is the bane of the current problems the Ministry is encountering, but he will dwell on the past, but work towards putting structures in place for the growth all sporting disciplines in the country.

"Unfortunately for me we also have been found to have committed mistakes that were committed in the past,' he noted.
