Midfielder Mubarak Wakaso claims he has assurances from Panathinaikos coach Argyris Pedoulakis he will be a first team regular.
The Ghana international signed a three-year contract with the Greens from Russian side Rubin Kazan.
He has replaced compatriot Michael Essien who was released at the end of the season.
Wakaso claims he is key to the coach's tactical plan for the season.
'It was the coach who approached me but not the club, he initially wanted me to join last season but I couldn't join them,' he told Joy FM.
'I weighed up my options and I realized moving here was good for me since it was the coach who called me to join.
'He has assured me of match playing time so I am really looking forward to that.'
Wakaso could make his debut on Wednesday when they take on Fenerbache in a pre-season friendly game.
