The Ghana Weightlifting Federation (GWF) is pleased to announce that Master Christian Amoah has been named as Ghana’s representative for this year’s Olympic Games to be staged in Rio, Brazil next month.

It would be recalled that after Team Ghana’s qualification for the Games in Cameroun, the technical committee was tasked by the Executive Board of the Federation to select an athlete to represent Ghana in the discipline.

After rigorous training sessions and consultations, the committee has settled Master Amoah as the country’s representative for the Games.

According to Ken O. Adade, Deputy General Secretary of the GWF, the 17 year old weightlifter started his journey in the sport in 2013. He participated in the Nanjing Youth Olympic qualifier in Tunisia in 2014 and placed 5th in the 77kg category and also took part in the Africa Youth Games in Botswana in 2014 where he placed 3rd in the 77kg category.

Amoah has also represented Ghana in the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Scotland and also the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) Championship in USA in 2015.

During last year’s All African Games in Congo, the athlete again finished 6th in the 85kg category and also placed 5thin the same category at the African Rio Olympic qualifier in Cameroun this year.

Christian is currently credited with three silver medals and is ranked 28th in the world in the 85kg category.

It is the believe and hope of the GWF that Master Christian Amoah will do his best to raise the flag of Ghana high. We wish him and Team Ghana for the Olympic Games the best of luck in their various disciplines.
