The Ghana Boxing Authority has revealed that the decision of Braimah Kamoko, popularly known as Bukom Banku, to resort to skin bleaching could mean a pre-mature end to his career.

The cruiser weight boxer has over the past couple of weeks posted a number photos of himself on the internet with his “newly acquired skin colour” and has defended the mutation claiming that it was inspired by his wife.

President of the Ghana Boxing Authority Peter Zwennes believes the boxer’s actions have put his future in the sport in a precarious position.

“We are the regulatory body but if a man of full age and competent understanding with both eyes functioning decides to engage in this sort of conduct then its entirely up to him.”

“He knows fully well how detrimental this will be to his health as a boxer and if he chooses to go along that path then so be it.

“I get the impression that he has given up on boxing and doesn't want to pursue his career any longer and that's the reason why apart from the comic side of him he has decided to go along this path.”

“Good luck to him but we will not take it upon ourselves to do anything about it,” he said.

The boxer's skin modification has triggered a lot of criticism especially on social media especially Twitter.

Peter Zwennes further explained that the boxer's current state poses a serious medical threat to prospective opponents and thus must be subjected to rigorous medicals should he decide to return to the ring.

“In the situation that he signs a contract to fight it will be up to our medical board to determine whether he is eligible to fight.

“If he has bleached to this extent I am sure that there are health hazards not only to himself but to his opponents so we will cross that bridge when we get to it,” he told Naa Darkwah Duodu, Spokesperson for the GBA.
