Sports News The Blind Pass: A weekly feature on the Ghana Premier League - Demerging Three horse race?
MAY 27, 2016 LISTEN

The Ghana premier league turned on the style as it entered it's penultimate games in the first round. Home wins were far and few as four travellers secured at least a point in their encounters.

All Stars dethroned Hearts and moved back to the top after beating Asante Kotoko by a lone goal. Bechem United are gradually losing their home invincibility dropping points in back to back home games.

This time it was against poor travellers Hasmal in a 1 goal apiece duel. Techiman City FC stood in between Ashanti Gold FC and that vital win that may possibly end the nightmare defence of their title.

The former pegged the champions back after they had taken an impressive 1 goal lead at the den in Techiman. Dreams FC inflicted a painful 1-0 defeat on New Edubiase United to condemn them to bottom of the league.

Mysterious Ebusua Dwarfs churned out a team of the week performance as they came back from a goal down to see off free scoring Aduana Stars. It was a major boast in their bid to steer clear off the relegation dogfight especially against a ruthless side with no defeat in 6 games.

Medeama SC for the second time in less than a week came from two goals down but this time around took all 3 points with the winner on the stroke of full time against West Africa Football Academy.

Jimmy Cobblah inspired Inter Allies to a 3-1 victory against Berekum Chelsea to set up an enthralling battle to leapfrog relegation at the bottom.

With the benefit of seeing their main contenders drop points 24 hours before their game Hearts of Oak failed to capitalise as they lost 1-0 at home to Liberty Professionals. They have as a result lost top spot on goal difference to All Stars who are back ticking again after a bumpy run of games.

DEMERGING THREE HORSE RACE ??…
Barely a week after the widespread hint of an emerging three horse race in the ongoing Ghana premier league serial outsiders have stepped up to call it's bluff and almost rendered it a mere fiction of wild imaginations.

At the close of week 13 it was all certain that perennial contenders Hearts and Kotoko were back to battle it out for a title they have won on countless occasions and know exactly what it means to win it.

Brooding down their necks and lurking was Aduana Stars who have also tasted premier league glory at some point. For Hearts of Oak it has been several seasons without the title and a no show in gunning for it in a few of them.

It was however not surprising seeing them upset the odds to mount a charge at the title at the start of this campaign. Asante Kotoko and Aduana Stars on the other hand have been in the title mix up often lately.

Their early season blip in the wake of their preseason form surprised many. It was refreshing to see these former champions get back into their stride and cease the initiative in a three horse race.

Perennial mid table hobblers All Stars and Liberty Professionals who have upped the ante this term had other ideas and have moved in swiftly to debunk the three horse race talk temporarily with their performances.

The duo have managed to dislodge two of the three perceived to be in the three prong race from their positions. Baring any capitulation as seen in most of these early season pretenders we have on our hands the most ostentatious league season ever annals of association football.

Has the three horse race set off on the road to demergence? This and many more of your pertinent GHPL questions will be answered in the weeks ahead.
