Former Ghana captain now Peace Ambassador, Stephen Appiah has once again likened football to politics and elections.

To him, just as politics deals with numbers and the outcome has the tendency of polarizing its faithful, so is the global leather game.

He pointed out during his Peace Tour to the National Peace Council and the National Chief Imam Sheikh Nuhu Sharubutu that the potential tension ahead of the November elections calls for conscious effort to arrest any possible unrest, hence his peace campaign.

The former Juventus/Parma man revealed that under no circumstance should the outcome of the November polls polarize the country, considering the fact that Ghana has become a reference point for democracy in the sub region.

Appiah stated that “Elections is not war, there are two things-win or lose, but no matter what, we should accept the outcome in good faith because we have only one Ghana.”

“There is tension is town because of the general elections and we want to use football to unite all of us that is why we are here to officially invite and ask for your blessing. We don't want to sit down for something negative to happen before we react, hence this campaign.”

National Peace Council chairman Rev. Professor Emmanuel Asante lauded the efforts of Appiah and prayed that Ghana emerges winner and not any political party at the end of the November General Elections.

Chief Imam, in like manner, praised Appiah and his team-Primeval and Vodafone, title sponsor of the Unity Games for the initiative.

He advised the citizenry to guard their speeches and counter every evil deed with a virtue taking into account that we come from one source-Adam and Eve.

Soccer stars in the recent past, and some currently playing actively like Sol Campbell, George Boateng, Austin JJ Okocha, Nwankwo Kanu, Emmanuel Sheyi Adebayor, Alex Song, Edgar Davis, Dwight York, John Mensah, Michael Essien, Sulley Muntari, Richard Kingson, Laryea Kingson etc are expected in the country for the Vodafone Unity Match in June.

Appiah will lead the stars to face Asante Kotoko on June 8 in Kumasi and against the Black Stars in Accra on June 11.
