GPL REVIEW: 7 things learned from matchday 13

In this week’s matchday lessons, readers will use their discretion to decide on the issues generated from the matchday which saw no away victory and the league reach the 200th goal mark..

1. SHOULD AKURUGU BE HEARTS NUMBER ONE?
Samuel Akurugu has been in post for the Phobians ever since the midway stage of their matchday 10 defeat against Kotoko. In this three and a half games, he has conceded only one goal which was a free kick against Aduana. He kept cleans sheets against Chelsea and Hasaacas. Should he keep the number one slot even after Soulama’s return?

2. IS IT TIME FOR MICHAEL OSEI TO BE GIVEN THE JOB ON A FULL TIME BASIS

5 wins in 6 matches for Kotoko following an abysmal start to the campaign has seen Kotoko move up to third. The fans firmly believe interim coach Michael Osei is behind their success bringing stability in the dressing room. Is it about time Kotoko hand him the job on a full time basis?

3. WHAT IS WRONG WITH ASHGOLD
Ashantigold cannot simply score in Obuasi to save their lives. For the second consecutive home game, the Miners drew a blank to further dent their chances of retaining the league. The Miners have not won since matchday 8 and are currently just 2 points away from the bottom half. What could cause a drastic dip in form for the reigning league champions?

4. HAVE DREAMS LOST THEIR WAY?
The new entrants began on a bright note going unbeaten in their first three games. However after slipping in Techiman, C.K Akonnour’s side have found the going tough. For the second time in four days, they threw away leads at home as they were held to a second consecutive 2-2 draw. Could they have lost their way?

5. CAN JIMMY COBBLAH DO AN “ALLARDYCE”
Inter Allies have seen their season go from bad to worse after an impressive start. The Tema side are 15th on the league log and still in search of a win after trouncing Bechem United. Herbert Addo has parted ways for Jimmy Cobblah to take charge but it looks increasingly difficult with their best almost always involved in national team assignment. Cam Cobblah pull the magic and perform another miraculous escape from Inter Allies?

6. WHO IS THE BEST NATURAL FINISHER IN THE LEAGUE?
Yahaya Mohammed and Latif Blessing lead the goal king chart with 9 goals each but there are some strong names in the top scorers list who could easily pass to lead the chart. One notable name on the list is Eric Bekoe who has been redeployed in a decoy role behind the main striker. Despite the withdrawn role, he has still bagged 7 goals in the league. Is he the best natural finisher in the league?

7. WHAT CAN TEAMS DO TO WIN AWAY?
There was no away win on this matchday as teams continue to struggle away. There has been only 15 away wins all season with Hearts winning 4 of these, Kotoko 3 and Wa All Stars 2. This leaves the other 13 clubs have won only 6 away games amongst themselves. What can teams certainly do to turn the draws into victories away from home?
