Nii Lante Vanderpuye: We Will Not Channel Our Entire Budget To The Payment Of Player Bonuses
10.02.2016 LISTEN

Minister for Youth and Sports designate Hon. Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye has said that his outfit will cut short the financial budget to the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

“Looking at our financial standing I cannot promise that we’ll be able to meet the demands of the Ghana Football Association with regards to the payment of the Black Stars bonus.”

The issue of player bonuses became a towering issue between the outgoing Minister for Youth and Sports, Dr. Mustapha Ahmed and the Black Stars but Nii Lante Vanderpuye is very optimistic that it is not going to create a problem for his administration.

“I don’t think this is going to create any problem between the nation and the players because the players also belong to the nation and they are very much aware of the financial challenge that has bedeviled the country,” Nii Lante said.

“I can say that about 70 percent of the current Black Star players have passed through my hands one way or the other and I don’t think working with them is going to be difficult as people seem to suggest,” he noted.

“It’s all about communication, however any player who will refuse to take what the entire nation decides to offer them as bonus fee can find his way because I see it more as a decision by the entire nation and not the ministry alone, so let’s all put our heads together and see what will be good for us but for now I cannot name any figure,” he said.

Hon. Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye met the vetting committee on Monday, February 8, 2016 and is ready to assume office should he pass the nod.
