Didier Drogba scored twice in a 3-0 victory at Arsenal as Chelsea moved five points clear of Manchester United at the top of the Barclays Premier League.

Drogba scored either side of a Thomas Vermaelen own goal to seal Chelsea's fifth straight BPL victory without conceding a goal and ended the Gunners' 100% home league record.

It also made it back-to-back league defeats for Arsene Wenger's side without scoring, following the previous week's loss at Sunderland. Chelsea were 11 points above them after the win.

Despite dominating possession in the first half, Arsenal lacked cutting edge and it was their former striker Nicolas Anelka who came close to breaking the deadlock, only to be denied by goalkeeper Manuel Almunia, who then saved from Drogba.

Four minutes before half-time, Drogba neatly finished a cross from former Gunners defender Ashley Cole for his ninth goal in as many appearances against Arsenal.

The lead was doubled on the stroke of half-time when another Cole cross was diverted into his own net by Vermaelen.

Wenger brought on Theo Walcott at the break and Arsenal livened up, with Andrey Arshavin having an effort ruled out for an earlier foul.

Almunia then had to make a last-ditch save after a Drogba effort bounced off William Gallas and Frank Lampard and headed for the net.
