No development: Abedi Pele: Future of Ghana football looks dim

Abedi Pele Ayew believes proper structures are not in place to help the development of football in Ghana, making the future to look dim.

Pele played in the topflight league in Ghana during the early 1980's with RTU, before he developed to feature overseas and was part of the Black Stars team that won the 1982 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The Maestro as he is affectionately called thinks the future of Ghana football is nothing to write home about and it has been his headache for some time now.

'I have mixed feelings in the sense that as well as we've played well in the African Cup and the World Cup. I feel a little bit worried for the future. The future if you look at the Ghana league is in shambles, because we have not been developing players or unearthing players,' Abedi Pele told Viasat 1.

'Also, players in the premier league are not able to get call-ups into the Black Stars, so there is a danger.  The future is not bright at all and I am worried.

'The typical example of what you can say is what is actually happening that our players end up moving to the Arab world and countries where football is not their priority."

He played football at the highest level winning the UEFA Champions League in 1993 with Olympique Marseille and became the first player to win the African footballer of the year on three consecutive occasions.
