Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan climbed off the bench to score for Shanghai SPIG in their 2-2 stalemate at Henan Jianye in the Chinese Super League on Wednesday.

The 29-year-old was introduced in the 57th minute and took just nine minutes to announce his presence at the Zhengzhou Hanghai Stadium in Zhengzhou with a neat finish following a pin-point pass from Wu Lei.

The former Al Ain hitman replaced Brazilian midfielder Rodrigues de Jesus and put the team 2-1 in front after the conceded the first goal.

The home side opened the scoring through Bi Jinhao on the 30th minute mark before Wenjun Lu pulled parity for the visitors on the stroke of half-time.

But Gyan, who is half-fit, was introduced by manager Sven Goran Erikson in the second half and immediately made an impact with a sleek finish to make it 2-1.

But the visitors failed to hold onto their lead as Bi Jinhao equalized in the 68th minute as the two teams shared the spoils.

The result has seen Shanghai SPIG slip to second on the table, just a point behind new leaders Guangzhou Evergrande.
