League Report FCPPL Preview: AshGold to hold on to lead while Chelsea, Aduana chase
AUG 1, 2015 LISTEN

Match Day 25 of the First Capital Plus Premier League will see exciting matches played in stadiums across the country. Despite all eyes being on the Super Clash this match day, the results from the seven other games will potentially have more far reaching consequences than the game in Accra.

WAFA drew 0-0 with Bechem United on Friday while Inter Allies played, annd beat, Heart of Lions 2-1 at the Tema Stadium on Saturday.

AshGold v Liberty
Ashanti Gold are hanging on to the top by their fingernails.

Inconsistency has caused their lead at the top to be reduced from seven to just two. And with the likes of Berekum Chelsea and Aduana Stars chasing tirelessly behind, they would need to step up their performances starting with the game against Liberty.

They have scored 28 goals and this is less compared to the number of goals scored by Medeama and Edubiase who are seven and eight places behind them. Liberty do not exactly have a particularly good record.

Many would spin their first victory in five games over WAFA largely on their familiarity with the poor pitch when they played at home. They would be hoping to keep Dansoman happy with a victory from Obuasi.

Hasaacas v Great Olympics
Both teams come into the game following their victories in the last games.

Hasaacas beat struggling B.A United 2-0 while Olympics beat Medeama 2-1 in Accra. Both teams have been involved in seven games since 2006 and the results have been even: three wins for both sides and a draw.

This game is very crucial for Olympics who are in the relegation zone. A win can potentially see them leave the dreaded last three and possibly see them stay in the league. Hosts, Hasaacas would also want to keep home fans happy and a victory for them might see them enter the top four for the first time.

B.A United v Aduana Stars
Bottom placed B. A United have a fairly better record at home than their abysmal record away which continued last weekend at Hasaacas.

They would face a strong Aduana Stars in the Brong Ahafo regional derby on Sunday. Aduana move one place up to third and can now be considered serious title contenders as they are just three points away from the reach of the league leaders. And with AshGold famous for their inconsistent performances, Aduana’s take over at the top would not surprising.

That is, if they can also deliver. BA United are on the verge of regulation and a negative result can all but cut short their stay in the elite division.
