Asamoah Gyan scored Ghana’s first ever World Cup goal

Striker Asamoah Gyan says the 2006 World Cup game against Czech Republic was his best match for Ghana at the finals.

The 29-year-old has cast his name into World Cup folklore by becoming the highest scoring African player at the finals in last year's edition in Brazil - overtaking Cameroon legend Roger Milla.

Gyan remains a hugely popular figure in World football for varied reasons.

Epic amongst the memories of Gyan was his painful penalty miss at the 2010 World Cup when the Black Stars were on the threshold of becoming the first African country to make the last four.

The former Sunderland man had until then scored three times to take the Black Stars thus far.

Gyan however says his first ever World Cup goal against Czech Republic back in 2006 was his best of the six goals scored in the finals.

'It is the 2006 World Cup in Germany, my first World Cup race in the Czech Republic and broke, and is opening just 68 seconds, is the tournament’s fastest goal,' he said.

'Of course, there are other moments, such as 2010 World Cup in South Africa and the United States team game, I completed lore in overtime to help the Ghana team rounded out the Top 8.

'But the deepest impression or break the 2006 Czech goal at the moment.'

The Black Stars went on to win that match 2-0 to secure a lifeline in the debut appearance at the World Cup following an opening defeat to eventual winners Italy.

Gyan has since gone ahead to become the all-time leading goalscorer for the Black Stars with 48 goals in 90 appearances.
