A 20-year-old footballer named Kofi Nicholas is reported to have collapsed and died playing an exhibition match in Sefwi Komiama in the Juaboso District Western Region.
Nicknamed, Anelka, he bowed and went to ground while playing football with his friends.
His teammates thought he was taking a break and when they found out, he was quickly rushed to Kofikrom SDA Clinic where he was declared dead on arrival.
Assemblyman of the area, Honourable Stephen Anobil, added that Anelka had come to the neighborhood called 'Mafia' because of a Soccer Gala he had organised for the youth scheduled for Sunday.
'Kofi's death has brought activities in the community to a standstill. He was a very good player who was very promising. The cause of his death couldn't be ascertained by the doctors. They did not tell us whether he had any sickness already or died of cardiac arrest,' Anobil said.
