116 stage: Eleven Wise beat Samatex in MTN FA Cup
25.05.2015 LISTEN

Eleven Wise qualified for the quarter final of the MTN FA Cup with an impressive 3-1 win over their fellow division one side Samatex FC at the Sekondi stadium on Sunday.

Wise had to rally from a goal down to make progress after Kweku Aidoo gave Samatex the lead in the 54th minutes.

But Vincent Bekoe produced a swiftest response to equalize a minute after conceding with a grounder shot from the edge of the box.

More fluid played followed as the quest for qualification intensified with half chances been squandered.

Coach Johnson Smith effected two substitutions as the match neared a draw in regulation time. The fans protested the the choices of their cult hero but redemption was coming later for Smith.

Abraham Ennin in the 80th minutes run from obscure position to snatch the goal that took Wise into advantage after David Nyankum outwitted goalkeeper Yaw Owusu Ansah but a defender racing with Nyankum to clear the danger.

Two minutes later and Wise has sealed their spot for Tuesday evening draw at neighboring town Takoradi. Issah Saliu won back a ball at the penalty area and chipped in the ball over goalie Ansah and a recovering defender.

Coach Smith turned to face his fans and gestured with his hands to urge them to support.

The first half generally saw Wise in dominant control of the game as they searched and pressed for goals but to no fruition as Samatex contained the home side while luck assisted them as well.

Osman Mohammed missed goal from a rebound attempt in the box and later denied a goal when his connection to a corner kick was cleared off the line.

William Opoku Mensah and John Koomson also struck the post with shooting attempts before Osman yet again delivered a wayward finish from close range after intercepting a back pass as Wise left for the recess very disappointed.
