Newly-promoted Dutch Eredivisie side NEC Nijmegen have released German-born Ghanaian defender Marcel Appiah as the official Dutch second-tier season rounds up, GHANAsoccernet.com can exclusively confirm.

NEC head coach Ruud Brood told the 27-year-old former Schalke 04 youth team player he is not part of his plans for next season in the Eredivisie campaign.

“I met them and the discussion was that I exit at the end of the season along with some other guys so I know it long before the end,” he told GHANAsoccernet.com.

Appiah joined NEC at the start of the season after leaving German side Arminia Bielefeld and overly influential in their league promotion, featuring in 27 league games and providing two assists.

The versatile defender’s form has already attracted clubs from Belgium and the Netherlands who are interested in securing his services for next season.
