APR 1, 2015 LISTEN

David Alaba is expected to miss the rest of the season with Bayern Munich after being ruled out for seven weeks with a knee injury.

Alaba, who has been in superb form this season when fit, suffered the injury on international duty with Austria when Bosnia and Herzegovina player Ermin Bicakcic landed on his left knee.

The 22-year-old was substituted at half-time of the international friendly and Bayern have confirmed that he has suffered an medial ligament tear.

Bayern confirmed via an official statement that Alaba, who can play in defence or attack, will be in a cast for 14 days and out of action for around seven weeks in total.

With the Champions League final coming in Berlin on June 6, it seems that Alaba's season is likely over.

THE VIEW FROM MUNICH with Dirk Adam, German football expert:

"It's a great loss for Bayern in the upcoming games against Dortmund (Bundesliga), Leverkusen (DFB-Pokal) and Porto (Champions League). Many people think that Bayern has no chance to win the treble this season because of Alaba's injury. Thiago and Philipp Lahm will come back – and Franck Ribery hopefully against Dortmund too. But Alaba is such a flexible and important player that Guardiola has some problems with his tactics now. The first option to play as left defender is Juan Bernat – but he's not so flexible."
