President John Mahama has tasked the country's football governing body, the Ghana Football association (GFA) to give attention to the domestic league.

In his State of the Nation Address yesterday, he charged the FA to make the local league worth following by making it attractive enough.

President Mahama expressed worry over the neglect of the domestic league as well as the other national teams and charged members of the GFA to give it the attention it deserves.

'Improve the local league and give attention to the other national teams like you do to the Black Stars. Focus on other national teams too. Make it more attractive and worth following,' he said.

Meanwhile, President Mahama has praised the Black Stars for their feat in the Equatorial Guinea Africa Cup of Nations, considering how most Ghanaians had written the team off due to the Brazil 2014 World Cup debacle.

'Ghanaians wrote the team off before the Nations Cup. The Equatorial Guinea championship was not our first silver medal but it was the development of Brazil that changed the dynamics,' he added.

He also praised youthful athlete Martha Bissah for her exploits at the Youth Olympicsin Naijing, where she won Ghana's first ever gold in the Olympics.

President Mahama lauded the Ghana Swimming Association for their steady progress in the year under review and promised that the newly constructed Cape Coast Stadium would soon be completed.
