Cup of Nations AFCON 2015: Head to head statistics: Guinea vs Mali
JAN 28, 2015 LISTEN

Head to head
-Mali have won both previous AFCON meetings against Guinea, in 2004 and 2012

-These sides have met 40 times in all competitions, with Mali winning 12, drawing 18  and losing 10

Performance in the African Cup of Nations
Guinea
-The Syli Nationale have conceded exactly one goal in their last six AFCON group stage games

-Guinea have drawn their last three Afcon group stage games 1-1

-This is Guinea's 11 AFCON tournament, with their best performance coming in 1976 when they finished runners-up to Morocco.

Mali
-The Eagles have drawn their last three Afcon group stage games 1-1

- Mali have reached the knockout stage in six of eight previous finals.

-Mali have finished third in each of the last two AFCON tournaments; they have not made the final of the competition since 1972 (in Cameroon) despite reaching five semi-finals since then.

- Mali took the lead in their first two group games, but failed to maintain them.

Current form and team
-This is the very first time the AFCON has seen all the four matches in a group ended one all.

-Should the last round of matches end in another one all, the four nations will be tied on points, goals scored and goals conceded, thus the organisers will resort to the last tie breaking exercise, which is drawing of lots.

-That would not be unprecedented, with the drawing of lots required at the 1988 Cup of Nations to send Algeria through to the knockout stage at the expense of the Ivory Coast, who had drawn all three of their matches.

Guinea
-Ibrahima Conte has made more tackles (six) and created more chances, including assists (three) than any other Guinea player in the tournament so far

-The Syli Nationale are 39 on the FIFA ranking
-Guinea coach Michel Dussuyer has defensive problems with Florentin Pogba suffering a groin injury to add to captain Kamil Zayatte's calf injury.

-Guinea winger Ibrahima Traore, who scored against Cameroon at the weekend and has been one of the players of the tournament so far, said: "We are progressing. We have played against two of the tournament favourites and nobody expected us to take anything from them.

Mali
-The Eagles have not kept a clean sheet in their last seven Afcon matches

-Mali are currently ranked 49 in the world.
-Only Zambia (64.7%) have a lower passing accuracy rate than Mali (68.1%) in this tournament

Mali (445) have attempted the fewest passes in the tournament.

-Germain Berthe is set to start in goal for Mali after Soumaila Diakite was ruled out for the rest of the competition with a groin injury.
