The group standings changed with every goal that entered the net in the two Group C games. Every single team among Senegal, Ghana, Algeria and South Africa entered their final game with a chance to make it through.

A nerve wracking situation for both players and fans alike. And with the head to head advantage, the entertainment was not short of its full amusing capacity.

Algeria played Senegal in their final group game to seek qualification to the knock out stage of the 2015 African Cup of Nation.

Algeria, having been beaten by a last minute goal against Ghana were never going to leave it late. And Senegal equally never wanted a setback that saw them struggle for a draw against South Africa.

But in football, on has to always play ball. And this time, Senegal unconsciously did.

A free kick played into the Senegal box found Riyad Mahrez with enough space to control and produce a a calm finish into the net as Algeria took a 1-0 lead after just eleven minutes of play.

The teams battled it out in possession with the leaders slightly piping their adversaries in possession as both clubs went into the interval with Algeria leading Senegal by a goal to nil.

Senegal attacked with their new game plan for the second half and troubled the Algeria goal for an equalizer.

The leading team however endured that attack but safely secured their qualification in the 82 minute when Nabil Bentaleb doubled the lead to take Algeria 2-0.

Game over it was. And at the end of an anxious game of football for all four countries in Group C, Algeria took second qualification spot with their 2-0 victory over Senegal with Ghana topping the group.
