Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan's late strike has stirred many including his playmates and the technical team to shower praises on him.

One of the unused substitutes on the day, Rabiu Mohammed, described the striker's opportunity that resulted in the match winner as a quarter chance. Gyan made good use a long pass from Wakaso Mubarak and struck past the advancing Algerian goalkeeper to keep Ghana in contention in the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea.

'What accounted for the only goal was a quarter chance, but Gyan managed to make good use of the slender opportunity.

'It has put us in a good position to qualify from our Group, he deserves all the credit, he did extremely well,' said Rabiu.

Smallish winger Solomon Asante, in like manner, praised the Black Stars captain saying, 'Asamoah's goal has really encouraged us to go the extra mile. We were under pressure, time was running out and God used him for the big relief.'

On his part, Ghana coach Avram Grant described the Al-Ain striker as one of the greatest forwards not only on the continent but the world at large.

At a press conference after the game, coach Grant said, 'No doubt Gyan is one of the greatest players on the continent and beyond. He got the goal out of nothing.

'Any other striker could have missed the chance he had. Time was far spent, but he demonstrated true qualities of a real captain, I salute him for this great feat,' said Grant.
