2nd Annual Coach Owuo Memorial Lawn Tennis Clinic

The second Annual Coach Owuo memorial tennis workshop was held in Accra last week and was well attended by tennis players and tennis ball boys predominantly from Osu. The two days' workshop introduced participants to rudimentary skills of the game. On the first day emphasis was made on ground strokes. In the morning sessions, participants were taken through drills that will improve forehand, and backhand strokes. In the afternoon participants worked on drills to improve their serve, volley, and overhead.

On the second day participants were taken through game situations and ended with a tournament. In closing the workshop Hon Nii Armah Ashitey, Member of Parliament for Korley Klottey, who was one of the sponsors of the workshop emphasized the importance of sports as a means of youth engagement and he brought to light the importance of education and advised participants to attend school regularly. The minister also brought to light the importance of discipline to become a good sports man.

The minister, on behalf of the constituency, said a big thank you to the sponsors of the workshop who were once tennis players and ball boys who through tennis, are now in various coaching and teaching positions in the USA; Coach Samson Ahinakwa of New Jersey, Coach Isaac Nunoo of Massachusetts, Abraham Victor Steiner Coach/Educator of New York, and Charles Steiner of New Jersey. The minister treated all participants with a refreshment after the workshop.

A special thanks was given to Coach Isaac Nunoo who donated an Adidas track suit to every participant. Also, a special thanks was given to the coordinators and coaches who made the workshop successful; Coach Lawrence Lartey, Coach Abei, Coach Paul Dowuona, Coach Antony Dove, and Coach Peter Annang.

In closing the minister mentioned that he would ensure that the workshop will be organized every year and if possible make it a national event.
