Tony Baffoe has been crowned the sports personality of the year for the 2014 Ghana sports Fans award at a colourful ceremony in Accra.

The ex-Black Stars defender defeated Youth Olympic Gold Medallist, Martha Bissah and sensational boxer Braimah Kamoko also known as 'Bukom Banku' for the most prestigious accolade on Friday night.

Baffoe made history after becoming the first blackman to lead out two teams in a World Cup final as he led Germany and Argentina onto the pitch in the final match of the tournament in Brazil.

He gave the directives to the referee to kick-off the match with millions of people watching the game worldwide in the world biggest sporting event.

The awards, which is the second edition, after its introduction last year, saw Black Stars' captain Asamoah Gyan winning the foreign footballer of the year award, whiles Braimah Kamoko, also known as 'Bukom Banku', beat Richard Commey and Joshua Clottey to the boxer of the year award.

Asante Kotoko defender Abeiku Ainooson was adjuged the best Ghana Premiership Player of the Year gong after beating Hearts of Oak's Owusu Bempah, New EDubiase talisman Asiedu Attobrah and ex-Bechem United dribbler Augustine Okrah.

Young athlete Martha Bisssah won the athlete of the year award following her exploites at teh World Youth Olympic Games.

The 17-year-old became the first Ghanaian to win an Olympic gold medal at any level after running a massive personal best and a new national record of 2:04.90 to snatch victory in the 800m final at the ongoing Youth Olympics in Nanjing, China .
