Ghana's slots for Africa reduced to two after drop in CAF ranking
28.11.2014 LISTEN

Ghana's slots for the 2015 CAF inter-clubs competitions have been reduced from four to two, the Ghana FA has confirmed.

This was after CAF released its ranking for next year's competition where the 12 highest ranked associations are eligible to enter two teams each in the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup.

Ghana lost its third and fourth co-efficient because the poor performance of clubs in the 2014 competition.

None of the four teams- Asante Kotoko, Berekum Chelsea, Medeama and Ebusua Dwarfs-were able to reach the Group stage of both competitions.

“The 2013/2014 season, Ghana had four slots but somewhere this week, CAF wrote to the federation that I had to do a telephone confirmation that Ghana's slots have been reduced from four to two- one for the Confederation Cup and one for the Champions League,” Ghana FA president Kwesi Nyantakyi said.

“And the rationale for it is because of Ghana's deteriorating ranking. I think Ghana was 13th but now 33 or so and so that is why we have lost our slots.”
