Ex Ghana striker Augustine Arhinful has revealed ambassadors for the 2014 World Cup were promised a 10 percent commission once they were able to raise $4m.
The Sports Ministry put together a group famous personalities drawn from ex footballers, musicians, actors and actresses as ambassadors to help with their drive to raise funds to sponsor supporters to the World Cup staged in Brazil.
These ambassadors took part in several activities to promote the sponsorship drive with no remuneration promised.
Some of them were sent to Brazil as a means to compensate for their efforts but Arhinful in giving evidence to the Presidential Commission on Monday revealed there were discussions to pay a 10 percent commission to the ambassadors if they are able to raise $4m.
“I remember the Minister telling us during our first meeting that if we were able to raise $4m, we will be given a commission of 10 percent,” he said.
Arhinful however confirmed this commission was not paid despite the Sports Ministry realizing over GHS 4m for the 2014 World Cup.
