Speaking ahead of the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational, Scott declared the Ohio-based tournament could be an ideal stepping stone for him, as he prepares for the last major of the year - the PGA Championship.

Scott won the Bridgestone Invitational in 2011 and the 34-year-old will arrive at the Firestone Country Club in good form for Thursday's first round having finished in the top 10 in his past four events.

"Yeah my golf's in good shape, thanks," he said on Wednesday.

"Really come up to a nice level during the summer and certainly would kind of like to get the result I'm hoping for this week and be great moving into next week with the last major close."

Scott finished in a share of fifth at his last start - The Open Championship.

Preceding that result, the Australian earned a share of ninth position at the US Open, he tied for fourth at the Memorial Tournament and a play-off victory in late May at the Crowne Plaza Invitational - his only win of 2014.

The first period of Scott's career until he won the 2013 Masters was classified by an inability to exploit opportunities with second-placed finishes at the 2011 Masters and 2012 Open Championship underlining his perceived mental weaknesses.

Scott believes he has overcome those issues now and claims it is due to a new-found love for golf.

"I think some years of experience maybe helped the balance of what I need in my professional life and personal life and I think it's very different, surprisingly, to me than I thought," he said.

"Where things are at, I felt earlier on I really needed a balance and escape from golf and I think I just didn't have it as well organised and now I don't.

"I'm so inspired to play and practise all the time and feel like I'm always on the cusp of something really great happening that's motivating for me to come out."
