The Jamaican sprint ace has already collected a long list of accolades in the sport, including six Olympic gold medals.

He has chosen to skip the 100 metre and 200m individual races in Glasgow but confirmed on Saturday that he will line up alongside his team-mates for the 4x100m relay, an event he enjoyed success in at both Beijing 2008 and London 2012.

There had been speculation that Bolt would miss the Games altogether, as he continues to build up his fitness after an injury-blighted start to the season.

At a press conference on Saturday, journalists questioned his thinking in travelling halfway around the world simply for a relay race.

However, Bolt insisted he is motivated to appear at the showpiece - having failed to make the Commonwealths in Melbourne in 2006 and again at Delhi 2010.

"I expressed it to my coach and I am happy to be here," he said.

"I have always wanted to compete in the Commonwealth Games."

Bolt will take to the track along with the rest of the Jamaica team on Friday when the relay heats get under way.
