Italian company Kappa have given away their intention to become the official kit sponsors of the Black Stars ahead of the 2014 World Cup.

Kappa have updated their status on its official Wikipedia page – listing Ghana as one of four national sides it will be kitting – joining Bulgaria, Jamaica and Kuwait.

Ghana will thus become the first national team from Africa to be taken on by the Italian firm.

This revelation comes as a huge surprise with Puma having an existing kit deal with the Ghana FA which runs through to next year's World Cup in Brazil.

The German sportswear manufacturers signed a multi-year deal with the Ghana FA in 2008 to become its official kit sponsor in a deal reportedly worth $25m.

The landmark agreement signed in 2008 saw the provision of a multipurpose team bus to the Ghana FA alongside the payment of sales royalties and performance bonuses while Puma kitted the Black Stars and all the other national teams under the Ghana FA's ambit .

Puma were also supposed to construct a training pitch to be used by the various national teams – an obligation yet to be confirmed as haven been achieved.

This existing deal is not set to expire until after next year's World Cup in Brazil with the Black Stars in pole position to clinch their third successive qualification to the finals.

Kappa however in what could be described as a massive coupe , have announced – at least through their Wikipedia page – they will be taking over the responsibilities of kitting Ghana at the World Cup.

This revelation is even more shocking after GHANAsoccernet.com reported weeks ago on a leaked sample of the new apparel being prepared for the Black Stars by Puma for the World Cup.

The Ghana FA is however yet to make any announcement to this effect.
