
Accra, June 20, GNA – Ajara Mohammed, Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) Sports Personality of the Year 2011 on Wednesday paid a courtesy call on telecommunication outfit, MTN.
MTN were the headline sponsors for the 37th SWAG Awards Night held on June 9 at the Banquet Hall, State House, Accra, which saw over 20 Sportsmen and women being rewarded for their achievements in the year 2011.
Ajara made history by becoming the first disabled athlete to win the topmost award in the 37-year history of the annual event.
Cynthia Lumor, Corporate Services Executive of MTN commended SWAG for the organization of a successful event and charged them to maintain the standards for subsequent editions.
She also congratulated Ajara for soaring above all to claim the flagship award and challenged her not to rest on her oars.
The Corporate Services Executive of MTN also pledged an extension of their relationship with SWAG to promote sports development in the country.
Ajara commended MTN and SWAG for the honour done as being the first disabled athlete to receive the topmost award in the history of the SWAG Awards, adding that she hopes to use her achievement to inspire other disabled persons to aspire to develop their talents.
Ackah Anthony, SWAG President also commended MTN for their role towards the successful organization of the incident-free and memorable event in the annals of Ghana;s sports awards.
Ajara was accompanied by Patrick Obeng, Male Athlete of the Year and Francis Adjetey Sowah, Chairman of the Year.
