Accra, May 7, GNA – RLG Communications, a pioneer telecommunications assembly company in the country has sponsored the renovation of the Sports Hall of the Accra Sports Stadium for the impending Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Games.

The telecommunications outfit is wholly funding the renovation works valued at two Million Ghana Cedis to get the venue ready for the sub-regional sporting event, scheduled for June 14-12 at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The Sports Hall will boast of global standard facilities like centralized air condition units, improved lighting and changing rooms for comfortable usage during the eight-day competition.

Clement Kofi Humado, Minister of Youth and Sports commended the telecommunications outfit for their great gesture which he said will go a long way to help the organisation of the second edition of the biennial Games in the area of facilities.

He mentioned sponsorship as one of the major challenges of the Local Organising Committee and called on other corporate institutions to come on board in line with his Ministry's vision of private sector partnership towards the development of sports in the country.

Roland Agambire, Chief Executive Officer of RLG said sports remains the passion of the nation, hence the decision by his company to sponsor the organization of the event as part of their corporate social responsibility.

He said the motive is in tandem with their motive to capture the African spot since the event will draw participation from neighbouring countries within the sub-region.

Speaking to the media after a tour of the facility, Eric Ansah, Deputy Managing Director of Architectural and Engineering Services Limited (AESL), contractors for the project said they are working tediously to get the venue ready by the end of the month (May).

The ECOWAS Games is open to athletes of not more than 23-years from the 15-member countries who will vie for honours in disciplines such as Athletics, Boxing, Handball, Volleyball and traditional Wrestling.

Nigeria hosted the maiden edition of the ECOWAS Games in 2010.
