Accra, April 26, GNA – Youth Development through Sports (YDS), a network and not-for-profit organization that uses sports as a tool for social development is organizing a tool kit workshop for selected coaches towards the implementation of their programmes.
The three-day event from 25-27 April in collaboration with the National Sports Authority seeks to empower the various coaches to master the tool kit and the manual for the programme for onward transfer to their partners.
Kodwo Morgan, Board Member of YDS told GNA Sports that topics being discussed include the Coach as a Role Model, Life Skills and Sports, Sports and Health, Sports and Violence, Health and HIV/AIDS and Developing Models in other disciplines.
He explained that the workshop will also to build the capacity of participants for the effective discharge of their duties.
About 25 participants drawn from member Non Governmental Organisations, the NSA and the Ghana Education Service are participating in the event.
YDS, which evolved from the German International Cooperation (GIZ) Project, dubbed “Youth Development through Football”, focuses on fostering relations among the member organisations and to also provide a common position nationally and internationally in addressing issues such as violence prevention, health awareness, social integration, peace building and environmental protection amongst others.
Its network members includes the National Sports Authority, National Youth Council, Africare, Play Soccer Ghana, Right to Play, SOS Ghana and ORPED Ghana.
The rest are Association for the Care and Rehabilitation of Offenders (ACRO) Ghana, United Nations High Commission for Refugees, GIZ Regional Centre, YES Foundation and the National Council for People with Disability.
The closing ceremony is scheduled for Friday, April 27 at the National Hockey Stadium, Accra.
