All Set For GOC London 2012 Launch

Coming shortly after the '100 days to go' milestone for the London 2012 Olympic Games, the British High Commissioner, Peter Jones, hosts a 'launch' event at his Residence today to provide a platform for Ghana's Olympic Committee to set out its level of ambition for the London 2012 Games, a release signed by Patience Folley, Communications Director of the British High Commission has said.

Attending the event will be a range of Ghana government institutions with a keen interest in the development of Ghana's domestic and international sport, led by officials of the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

The event will also bring together a selection of current or potential sponsors of the Ghana Olympic team from the business sector. The event will feature some of the hopeful Olympians who are preparing for their chance to represent Ghana at the Games.

Speaking ahead of the event, Peter Jones said, 'The London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games is a rare opportunity for Ghanaian sportsmen and women to demonstrate on the largest international sporting stage their skills, competitiveness and determination.

'Ghana has a proud heritage of sporting achievement, and it is right that the level of ambition for the London Games is high, both in sports in which Ghana has been traditionally strong, such as boxing and athletics, and newer sports such as judo.'

Professor Francis Dodoo, President of the Ghana Olympic Committee, said, 'We are determined that Ghanaian athletes will be credible competitors, and receive all the support that they need in the run-up to and during the Games. For many of our prospective Olympians, this is a rare opportunity.'

The forthcoming Games will run from July 27 to August 12 to be followed by the Paralympic Games scheduled for August 29 to September 9.
