Accra, April 14, GNA - Liberty Professionals handed Heart of Lions their heaviest defeat since joining the elite division after beating them 5-1 in their Week 24 encounter on Saturday at the Sly Tetteh Stadium, Dansoman.
Liberty led 2-0 at half time before scoring thrice in the second half to seal a famous victory over the Kpando lads and also boost their chances of a top four finish.
Heart of Lions failed to roar throughout the game and paid dearly for their sluggish defence and impoverished midfield.
Liberty attacked from the onset and scored the opener on 11 minutes through Latifu Salifu who headed in from a three-man move with Atta Kusi and Seidu Yakubu as the other actors.
The visitors responded positively to the challenge but nimble-footed Ofosu Appiah and Godfred Asante missed golden opportunities on 27 minutes and seven minutes later respectively.
Three minutes to recess, Francis Morton doubled the lead for the hosts with a spectacular volley that left Heart of Lions goalie Nana Bonsu with no option.
Eleven minutes into the second half, Gambian-import Ibrahima Camara scored the third goal with a simple tap from Salifu's cross.
Eight minutes later, Daniel Bonsu gave the visiting team something to cheer about as he reduced the tally with a thunderbolt that zoomed into the net, leaving Liberty shot-stopper Daniel Agyei hapless.
It was Liberty all the way as Salifu scored his second of the game on 78 minutes before Issa Yakubu completed the routing three minutes from time by connecting home from a goalmouth melee.
