Boye's form increases competition

Ghana's bench would have no problem maintaining John Boye in defence as two experienced players, John Mensah and Isaac Vorsah become available for selection at the 2012 African Cup of Nations.

Assistant coach of the Black Stars, Kwesi Appiah believes the player's form has brought added competition in that area.

Boye has played in both Ghana games in Group D as the Black Stars have kept two clean sheets after wins over Botswana and Mali.

Appiah has no worries about his centre-back as Mensah and Vorsah return from suspension for the final group game against Guinea on Wednesday.

“I believe that the way John (Boye) is playing, everyone is very satisfied and we would continue with the training and see who would be in the final team,” Appiah said.

“I believe that we shouldn't be looking at who starts but getting the best team on the field to play. No coach would normally change a winning team or someone who is doing very well. Let's hope and see how things go.”

Changes are expected but Appiah does not expect a wholesale shakeup of the team ahead of the final group game.

“We won against Botswana and did some changes and we won against Mali. The important thing is not making too much changes but a couple of changes is normal," he said.

“It could be that we would do some changes but the most important thing is assessing your opponents and knowing the players who can play tactically to suit you.”
