Kumasi, July 13, GNA- An Ashanti Regional Select-side Volleyball Team on Saturday beat Kumasi Technical Institute (KTI) by 2-1 sets in the final of the men's category of this year's Regional Volleyball Week Competition held at the Prempeh College in Kumasi.
The winners were presented with a trophy donated by the National Sports Council, which organised the competition in conjunction with the Ashanti Regional Volleyball Association.
Prempeh College team which was expected to make amends in the third-place match against Effiduase Secondary School (EFFISCO), after loosing to KTI in the semis, failed to live up to expectation when they lost 0-2.
In the women's category, St Monica's Secondary School (MONISEC) beat Kumasi Girls Secondary School (KUGISS) by 2-1 sets to win the championship, whilst Kumasi Nurses Training College (NTC) placed third with a 2-1 win over EFFISCO, who placed fourth.
In a closing address, Madam Theresa Akua Baah, Vice-President of the Ashanti Regional Volleyball Association, commended the 13 teams, which participated in the competition for the high level of discipline they exhibited throughout the competition.
She called on the students not to engage themselves in drugs or lead lives that could jeopardise their future.
Madam Baah appealed to benevolent organisations and stakeholders in sports to come to the aid of the association to promote the game and ensure that volleyball is well patronised in the region.
