Berekum Arsenal coach goes awol

Trouble is brewing in the camp of premier league side, Berekum Arsenal, following the absconding act of their coach, Johnson Smith.

Information reaching Chronicle Sports indicates that despite desperate and frantic search for him, officials of the club are encountering difficulty to locate his whereabouts.

Keen followers of happenings on the local soccer scene will not be surprised in the least, about Johnson Smith's act, as comments he has been making during interviews with the media suggest that he is a man stomaching a lot of things that need no stomaching. Therefore, his decision to pack bag and baggage to leave Berekum unceremoniously is a matter of course.

'I've decided to quit Berekum Arsenal, and that's it. It's my decision, and it's very personal.

Johnson Smith would not categorically cite reasons for his unceremonious departure from the club, but all he could say, was that 'so many things are happening, but I don't want to talk about them in the media'.

According to him, the clubs is indebted to him, but no payment is forthcoming, but I've left them and whether they pay the money to me or not, I don't care. If they do fine, but if they fail to do so, that's also fine', he remarked.

Almost two weeks ago, Johnson Smith, after leading Berekum Arsenal to another loss when they played Liberty Professionals at Dansoman, he bemoaned the absence of an assistant with whom he could confer to map out appropriate strategies for matches, saying 'too heads are better than one'.

In what one can describe as an answer to his request, Berekum Arsenal have appointed John Eshun their technical director, giving rise to speculation that, that move may have occasioned the hurried manner in which Smith packed out of Berekum.

But Smith says, he has no problem with the appointment of John Eshun, saying that he regards the former Dwarfs coach as his senior in the risky and volatile coaching job.

Johnson Smith has been approached by Bibiani Golden Stars to handle the team, but he says a decision to join the team from Bibiani would be dependent on the offer they table for his consideration.
