Competition and Camaraderie mark Airtel's golf tourney

This year's Airtel sponsored Captain's Prize tournament was successfully held at the Bok Nam Kim Golf course at the Air Force Mess in Accra on Saturday. The day's event witnessed an assembly of over 100 golfers from all golf clubs in the capital. The tournament itself was replete with a high display of competitive spirit and camaraderie.

The Managing Director of Airtel Ghana, Mr. Philip Sowah, in an address assured Ghanaians of his company's continuous support for sports development in the country. According to him, Airtel's support for sports gives the company an opportunity to interact with their customers and also expand their customer base.

Mr. Philip Sowah also congratulated the players for participating in the tournament and urged them to continue to do their best in other coming competitions.

At the end of the fiercely competitive tournament, Commander M.B Hassan, from the Celebrity golf club emerged the winner in the Men category 'A' competition, with a net score of 61. He was followed by Mr. E.T Mensah, with a net score of 63. The third place went to Mr. E. K Owusu with a net score of 65.

Ann Brown won the women's division 'A' and was followed by Aku Yaaba in second position. In the Men's category 'B', Mr. Sam Wanko came first with a net score of 61 and was followed by Hon. Felix Owusu Adjapong, with a net score of 68, and Mr. Charles Bonsu with a net score of 69 in third place. Eno Serwah won in the women's division.

The longest drive in both Men and Ladies categories went to Mr. Ernest Opoku and Mrs. Leticia Amponsah Mensah respectively.

Certificates were issued to other corporate entities that supported the tournament, while Mr. Osei Bimpong was adjudged the 2010 Bok Nam Kim Golfer of the year. In his closing remarks, Captain of the golf club, Air-Commander Obeng thanked Airtel for sponsoring the tournament.

The occasion was graced by former Commissioner of the Commission of Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), Mr. Emil Short, former Boss of AngloGold Ashanti, Sir Sam Jonah and Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice-Marshall Sampson Odey among others.
