International Boxing Association continental welterweight champion, , has left Accra for the United States of America with a promise to annex one of the main world titles before returning home.
“It is not an easy job out there, but I am confident that a major world title is not too far away,” he told Daily Graphic in an interview.
Supported by his trainer, Darko Rickets, at a news conference at the Accra Stadium Friday, on the eve of his departure, BruceLee —as Ayi is popularly called by his fans — said his short experience in America had prepared him for the challenges ahead, particularly now that he held the IBA continental title.
“It is more difficult to hold the title, but with the seriousness that I have attached to my career, I am sure to survive,” he said.
Trainer Rickets, who is expected to join the 25-year-old boxer in the United States for preparation for a possible shot at the world title sometime this year, said the discipline that characterised the boxer’s beginning were indicative of his mental make-up and the quality that awaited the world in the near future.
Bruce was a majority decision winner against Shamone ‘The Truth’ Alvarez of the USA as he won the crown at Bally’s in Atlantic City, USA, on December 4, 2010.
Michael Tetteh, the chief executive of GoldenMike Promotions whose Golden Concepts are the managers of the boxer, said their pride was the feat of the boxer, but their greater joy was the honour their stable was delivering to the country in boxing.
