Liberty lick Hearts…Aduana maintains top spot

A comedy of defensive blunders on the part of Hearts of Oak and Liberty Professionals produced five goals in a thrilling Accra derby at the Ohene Djan Stadium yesterday.

The Dansoman-based side stamped their authority on the game from the start resulting in two quick goals within ten minutes, through their Guinean import and MVP S. Kaby Naby.

The Guinean fetched the opener when the game had barely gathered momentum in the sixth minute, and again scored a personal second three minutes later, capitalising on goalkeeper Laud Quartey's errors.

Earlier, Liberty had come close to making it two, but keeper Quartey parried the ball to safety. Liberty's goalkeeper Akwasi Acheampong unduly delayed in taking a kick in his own goal area, which incurred the wrath of referee/banker E.R Biney, to award Hearts an indirect free kick which Mahatma Otoo executed with perfection to pull one goal back.

The Phobians threw more men forward in search of an equalizer but their efforts yielded no results, till the end of the first half.

Rather, it was Liberty who increased the tally to three, through another Guinean import, Foda Musa Sylla, who fired home from a rebound after Quartey had failed to make a first time grab of the ball.

Fifteen minutes after the break, Samuel Affum reduced the tally when he headed home a Douglas Nkrumah corner. Aduana Stars beat Eleven Wise in Berekum to maintain their grip on the top position of the league.
