Liberty Professionals humble Hearts
February 07, 2010
Accra, Feb. 7, GNA - Dansoman Liberty Professionals posted a 3-2 win over defending League champions and city rivals Hearts of Oak in their Week 17 Glo Premiership encounter on Sunday at the Ohene Djan Stadium, Accra.

The Guinean duo of Capi Soumah and Sylla Foda were once again the heroes for the Dansoman-based side as they cruised to a convincing win at the expense of their much fancied city rivals in the first Accra derby of the final round of the premiership.

Whilst Liberty have made it two wins from two games in the second round, Hearts have managed just a single point out of the maximum six points, giving birth to doubts of a successful defence of the title.

The result of the game is one that Hearts goalie, Laud Quartey would want to easily forget, as his below par performance only earn him boos from the fans and a place on the bench during the latter stages of the game.

Liberty who always find the Phobians as tough customers to handle on any meeting, shot into the lead as early as the fifth minute through Capi Soumah. The Guinean finished off coolly from Isaac Donkor's effort after Sylla had torn apart the Hearts defence.

Five minutes on, Soumah doubled the lead by connecting in David Kabu's corner-kick with a feeble response that surprisingly beat Hearts goalie Quartey.

On 24 minutes, striker Mahatma Otoo reduced the deficit for the Phobians with a bullet shot after Eric Gawu had set him up from an indirect free-kick after the Liberty keeper had committed a foul in his box.

Upon resumption of the second half, Liberty restored their goal lead through Sylla on 56 minutes. The Guinean forward slammed home coolly after the ball spilled out of Quartey's hands from a harmless corner kick.

The lead of the Dansoman lads lasted for only three minutes before Samuel Affum made it 3-2 with a header from a Douglas Nkrumah corner-kick.

The following four minutes was a nightmare for the Hearts goalie, as his responses became suspect, leaving head coach Yusif Abubakar with no option than to replace him with Baba Sampana.

Both teams had their share of the exchanges, but none failed to convert the opportunities into goals until the final whistle.
