Accra, Dec. 31, GNA - XEX Ghana Limited fought from two-goals down to beat WDP Ghana Limited 6-5 to win the maiden Accra Polo Juniors Championship which ended at the Accra Polo Grounds on Wednesday.
It was Ramzy El Ashkar who opened the scoring for WDP two minutes inside the First Chukka when his feeble shot from an acute angle went straight into the net.
Ramzy was on hand again to make it two a minute later but the XEX team redoubled their efforts and beat down the scores when skipper Peedee Quartey scored from a free-kick a minute inside the Second Chukka.
The game from then on became a ding-dong affair but it was XEX who were slightly on top as they went ahead to score five more goals through Muhsin Dasuki (2), Deon Golpaldas (2) and Pele Voncujovi while in the Third and the final Chukka with Lepa Awudu Mensah, Sena Voncujovi and Caelan Golpaldas netting for WDP.
The four-day tournament was co-sponsored by Mansel Ghana Limited, Vanguard Assurance Company Limited, XEX Ghana Limited, WDP Ghana Limited and Geodrill Ghana Limited.
Mrs Florence Adu, Juniors Polo Development Director said the aim of organising the competition was to whip up the enthusiasm of the game among the youth and also to help them develop their talents.
She announced that a Juniors League competition would soon be organized for the youth members as a way of sustaining the game and also prevent the game from dying a natural death.
Mr E. Akumfi Agyemang, Chairman of the Accra Polo Club thanked the companies for sponsoring the competition and called on other corporate bodies to help develop the sport in the country.
