Accra, Dec. 30, GNA - The Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) has nullified the results of
last Saturdays' World Boxing Authority (WBA) Pan Africa Super Light weight championship
between Albert Mensah and Isaac Quartey, which ended on a controversial note.
The GBA has subsequently ordered a rematch between the two boxers on March 6, 2010.
The Authority has also suspended the three judges who officiated in the bout for four
boxing nights for their role in the controversial fight.
The judges are; Fred Ghartey, May Mensah Akakpo and Shadrack Acquaye.
A statement signed by Samir Captan, Chairman of the GBA copied to the GNA Sports,
said the three judges will also forfeit their fees for the night.
It however commended the boxing fraternity for their patience and tolerance and warned
that the GBA will not condone any acts of violence during future boxing tournaments.
It would be recalled that the fight between the two boxers ended on a controversial note
following the failure of the judges to reconcile their scorings which affected the credibility of
the results.
This compelled officials of the GBA to suspend the announcement of the results for further
investigations.
