Ghana Excel At Pre-AACT Golf At Abuja

Ghana placed second to Nigeria in the just-ended pre-All Africa Challenge Trophy (AACT) golf of the All Africa Ladies Golf Union biennial championship held in Abuja, Nigeria.

Senegal and Gabon took the third and the fourth slots respectively in the 72-hole amateur stroke play for West and Central African countries ahead of the AACT 2010 event to be held from November 8-15 2010 at the IBB Club Golf Resort in Abuja.

Ghana’s team of Mona Myers-Lamptey, Debora Ephraime, Margaret Oppong, with Esther Amedzro, as team Captain /Manager, has since returned home.

A brief by the Captain/Team manager said the team, while in Nigeria, participated in the 15th Ladies Golf Association of Nigeria (LGAN) 2009 open held from November 6th to 8th, 2009 immediately after the pre-AACT tournament.

Mona Myers-Lamptey took the 4th position in the 36-hole scratch event, beating 5th-place Debora Ephraime on count back. Joy Arkutu and Vetsch Bempong, both members of the team Ghana, took the 1st and second prizes of the Veteran Ladies action.

The All Africa Challenge Trophy, the most prestigious amateur ladies golf event on the continent, first held in Harare, Zimbabwe, in 1992 has since been held in Kenya (1994), Lagos, Nigeria (1996) and South Africa (1998).
