Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien is confident Stephen Appiah will help Italian side Bologna improve their fortunes in Serie A.
Appiah sealed a deal with the Serie A strugglers last week and Essien says his Ghana national team captain will help turn around the fortune of Bologna.
Appiah signed the deal with Bologna after being out of action for nearly two years and Essien says Bologna supporter will enjoy Appiah's influence.
"I am really pleased for him because he deserves to be playing club football," Essien said.
"He is one of the best midfielders around and I can promise Bologna fans that they have one of the best players in the business.
"His leadership and experience alone is worth having him in their team for and his football will definitely be good for Bologna - I am sure of that.
Essien added that his captain's deal with Bologna will also help improve the fortunes of the Black Stars.
"For the Black Stars too its good news because of what he brings to the team. Even without playing club football he still helped the team."
