Champs Lge title eludes Ansah

By ghanasoccernet.com

Ghanaian Aziz Ansah missed out on winning this year's Caf Champions League after Heartland FC were edged out by DR Congo side TP Mazembe on the away goal rule on Saturday.

Victor Ezuruike conceded an own goal to give Mazembe a 1-0 victory, 2-2 overall after two legs but the southern Congo side profited from scoring in last week's 2-1 defeat in Nigeria.

The former Asante Kotoko right-back was seeking to emulate compatriot Joetex Frimpong who won the competition with another Nigeria side Enyimba FC in 2003 and 2004.

Ansah missed out on winning the then Caf Cup Winners' Cup in 2002 and the Caf Confederation Cup in 2004.

Mazembe are US$1.5m richer and a qualification ticket to play in December's Fifa Club World Cup in the UAE as African champions.
